Production Role skills analysis

Audio Mixer

Written Communication

When carrying out the role of an audio mixer, it’s important that if you’re recording b big bands, you have the layout of the band written down, together with possible arrangements of the performance if possible.

Verbal Communication

When working in a production team, the main people you need to communicate with is the technical crew, so that if there are any issues with the equipment, they can try to fix it. Also the video team, communicating with the video team is the most important aspect of a video/audio media production, so that the video goas along with the audio.

Practical Production

As an audio mixer the main jobs are to perform a sound check when recording a musical band, this includes getting the band to play one instrument at a time, and the audio mixer adjusting the volumes and effects so that they bring out the best possible quality of the instrument coming out of the appropriate channel. Another role is to record the performance, and afterwards insure that the mix down of the recording is proficient.

Creativity

During the recording of a performance, as an audio mixer you have a chance to add effects to the performance which you think could improve the quality of the performance, after checking of course with the artist you’re recording if your ideas are also agreed on with the band, then these effects could be put to place.
