Jack Hammer Session March 24th 2014

Today's session was with a bloos band called Jack Hammer.
The band performed 3 songs with the last song having only one take.
My job was different this time, I was on Soundforge recording the prformances instead of pressing the Red Light.
It was a really good session, after the sound check we quickly started recording and despite a few mistakes the session went great and the band were happy with the quality of the final product.

Ethics and copyright in the media industry March 14th 2014

In the last session we were given a task to search for examples of copyright cases and offencive content in the media industry in groups.
My example of a copyright case, which also involved royalties was the case from last year in which Will.I.Am was sued by Tulisa for apparently using lyrics in his song Scream And Shout which she claimed to have written.
As for offencive content, I started looking at music but then decided to look into radio. I found many clips I could use but I went for a clip from the 5 Live Breakfast where Nicki Cambel used the "C" word live on air.

Chappel Session February 17th 2014

This week we had another chappel session to record. This time it was different to the sessions we recorded in the past.
We were going to be recording childrin's performance, including dancing with the singing. This therefore required a lot more work on the camera side, but also more work on the sound aspect of the performance.
The sound check also had to be done much differently to the usual way because the performance didn't include any instruments but a backing track. So the only aspect of the performance that had to go through sound check were the 5 vocalists.
After getting each child to count while the sound engineers were setting the volume of the microphones, it was time to start recording. At the begining it was difficult was we had to find out what dance moves are involved and how far will some vocalists be away from the microphone at times. The group performed 3 songs, and at the end they were happy with our recording.

Exporting and editing jingles

After recording the jingles for Chappel radio last week, the next task was to export them using iTunes because I recorded them on my iPhone.
When exporting jingles from my phone on iTunes I faced a few issues with my iTunes however I managed to export them in the end. After that I deleted jingles that didn't sound good enough to use them for a radio show.
The next step with the good enough for use jingles, was to edit them so that they can be used.
The editing included cutting out the people's names which they said at the begining of the recording so that I could lable the files. I edited the files deleting the names, and also the pauses at the end of each file.
Now the jingles are exported and ready to use. There are 27 jingles available to use.

Recording Jingles for Chappel Radio March 3rd 2014

In the last session, the job for me and another member of the media course was to walk around the college and record radio voiceovers.
People were asked if they wouldn't mind being recorded, all they had to say was "You're listening to Chappel Radio" Lots of people were happy to record the voiceovers, and at the end of the session we had over 25 great audio clips which we can now use for the production of our own radio shows for Chappel Radio. We will use them for our jingles and to play inbetween records.
The recording session was great, especially because many people agreed to help and let us record them.
